Before investing substantial financial resources into your upcoming IVF cycle, Dr. John Zhang strongly recommends fertility counseling. Fertility counseling has been shown to help couples cope with the financial, mental, and emotional stress of IVF treatment. Being proactive with your mental and emotional health will increase the odds of achieving a successful IVF pregnancy.
A positive attitude is crucial to making make sure you have the best chance of a successful pregnancy. Being proactive with your mental and emotional health care is key. A woman’s whole body health benefits from fertility counseling during her struggle to conceive. Many of the challenges of infertility can be addressed through individual, couple, and group counseling.
Professional In-House Fertility Counseling with Allison Rosen Ph.D. is recommended by the fertility specialists at New Hope Fertility Center. That’s not all: We are dedicated to promoting how patients can increase their chances of achieving a healthy pregnancy through genetic testing in conjunction with In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
As an experience clinical psychologist specializing in infertility, Dr. Allison Rosen has helped hundreds of couples cope during their struggle to have a baby.
Through individual, couple, and group counseling, the Doctor addresses the many challenges of dealing with infertility including:
Today’s Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) helps to increase the healthy birth rates of babies through genetic testing. This is because only the healthiest embryos are transferred for implantation during a fresh IVF cycle and/or Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET). Genetic testing helps to reduce the number of cycles required to achieve a healthy pregnancy.
Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS)
PGS is the testing of an embryo’s overall chromosomal normalcy prior to being transferred to the patient’s uterus in conjunction with IVF. PGS detects chromosomal deficiencies – aneuploidy – an extra or missing chromosome in an embryo.
PGS dramatically increases a woman’s chance of conception. Only the healthiest embryo(s) are transferred. Embryo biopsy and screening can increase a patient’s chance of a successful pregnancy by up to 30 percent.
Because advanced maternal age (over 35) adversely affects the quality of a woman’s eggs – oocytes – resulting in chromosomal abnormalities, New Hope Fertility NYC recommends PGS in conjunction with IVF to patients over the age of 35.
By extracting a cell from an embryo and analyzing it, poor quality embryos are detected. Biopsy of this cell will not damage the embryo.
Low quality embryos result in:
NGS is a new method of PGS. NGS is the latest genetic screening test for primary candidates undergoing IVF. NGS is used for comprehensive chromosome testing of embryos created through IVF. NGS is on the horizon to replacing PGS because of the procedure’s lower cost and reduced errors.
NGS allows embryologists to screen for defects on the chromosomal level with higher accuracy and more detail than ever before. PGS results are comprehensive and a higher resolution than any other genetic testing method because it detects more translocations.
NGS is also helpful for those couples wanting to plan their family through gender selection.

Today’s older women – between 38 and 42 – have more fertility treatment options than ever before. There is a new fertility therapy treatment that can help older women get pregnant. Ovarian Rejuvenation Therapy helps women past their reproductive prime reproductive years conceive. No longer is it concluded that older women need to be placed on the fast-track to IVF.
Women who are past their reproductive prime used to be automatically placed on the fast-track to IVF . This was typically the most effective treatment option for older women to conceive quickly and cost-effectively. Look: Time is of the essence. Before undergoing IVF, older women can now consider Ovarian Rejuvenation Therapy. Bottom Line: As a first line measure, both Ovarian Rejuvenation Therapy and IVF can avoid repeated failed infertility treatment cycles.
All older women – even menopausal women – have egg follicles in their ovaries. These eggs are dormant and don’t grow because their environment for development is not optimal. This occurs when a woman’s rigid ovarian wall pushes on follicles and keeps them dormant. When a woman is unable to ovulated, Ovarian Rejuvenation Therapy can coax her ovaries into producing viable eggs for fertilization. At New Hope Fertility Center, Dr. Zhang and fellow fertility specialist – Dr. Zaher Merhi – have achieved phenomenal pregnancy success using Ovarian Rejuvenation Therapy.
Ovarian Rejuvenation Therapy may be recommended when:
At New Hope Fertility Center, Ovarian Rejuvenation Therapy is performed in a non-invasive manner compared to other techniques currently being used by other clinics.
Here, Ovarian Rejuvenation Therapy is similar to an IVF egg retrieval procedure and is performed in office:

Many couples who have achieved pregnancy success through IVF donate their excess frozen embryos in order to help others conceive. Look: One in six couples in America cannot conceive a biological child of their own. Frozen embryo adoption has successfully helped infertile couples build their families when other fertility treatments fail. Bottom Line: The success rate of IVF has led to an increase in the number of excess frozen embryos available to childless couples.
Freezing excess, quality embryos after a fresh IVF cycle will increase a couple’s chances of conceiving in the future. This is not even the best part. Through embryo cryopreservation technology, couples can avoid the financial and physical strain of undergoing multiple fresh IVF cycles. That’s not all. Pregnancy success rates for a Frozen Embryo Transfers (FET) are higher than a fresh transfer because a woman has the opportunity to wait until her uterine lining returns to an ideal state for embryo implantation.
Through FET, couples can repeatedly try to get pregnant using adopted frozen embryos. If the FET cycle is successful, couples can undergo another procedure at a Couples can plan their family through gender selection
Through world class laboratory technology, our pregnancy success rates through FET has increased substantially in recent years. That’s not all. Only high quality embryos are cryopreserve to be later transferred in future FET procedures. This success has made FETs an increasingly popular option to consider before considering a subsequent fresh IVF cycle. Bottom Line: With FET, couples can increase their chance of pregnancy per fresh egg retrieval and ultimately save money by avoiding the expense of another fresh IVF cycle.
To begin the FET procedure, hormone medication is administered to suppress the woman’s pituitary gland and reduce the chances of unexpected ovulation. Estrogen acts to thicken and mature the uterine lining – like the natural estrogen produced by a developing egg follicle during a normal menstrual cycle.
During estrogen administration, monitoring of the uterine lining is required.
Double Benefit of FET: Monitoring for timing of transfer during a FET cycle is more flexible than in a fresh IVF cycle. The FET procedure is much less stressful on patients because the transfer date can be adjusted.
Progesterone is a medication administered in preparation for the FET to make the uterine lining receptive to the implantation of the embryo.
Healthy pregnancies have been achieved after an embryo has been frozen for up to 10 years. Pregnancy success through FETs is determined by the quality of the frozen embryo.
Dr. John Zhang promotes the practice of Single Embryo Transfer (SET) to reduce health risks associated with multiple pregnancies and births. Cryopreservation of surplus embryos for future FET procedures is encouraged by the fertility specialists at New Hope Fertility Center – in lieu of repeated, expensive fresh IVF cycles.
The flash-freezing technique of vitrification makes it possible to ready fresh embryos rapidly for cryopreservation. Using the vitrification method, embryos freeze quickly and damaging ice crystals do not form between cells. We are leaders in embryo cryopreservation. Dr. John Zhang was one of the first doctors in the United States to implement the vitrification method of embryo freezing.

Using Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) technology in conjunction with IVF, our expert embryologists will directly inject one good sperm into each egg. Knowing more about the ICSI process and its effectiveness can help you understand if this IVF ancillary treatment option is something you should consider.
In order to be considered fertile, a man’s sperm must:
Should any of these functions be diagnosed as abnormal, a man may not be able to impregnate a woman because his sperm cannot penetrate her egg. A man may be infertile even if he produces adequate quantities of sperm in ejaculate. Should his sperm be misshaped or not move correctly, fertilization will be difficult, if not impossible.
ICSI may be used whenever male fertility is a concern. The process can address issues with the shape and movement of sperm and compensate for low sperm count. If sperm are produced but are not present in semen, they can be manually retrieved and then used in the ICSI process. The process may also be suggested to couples who have had low fertilization rates during other cycles.
ICSI is performed in conjunction with IVF. Once retrieved, each egg is injected with a single sperm in a laboratory setting. The eggs are then monitored for signs of fertilization. The resulting embryos are closely monitored as they develop through EmbryoScope technology. Healthy embryos are then transferred to the mother’s uterus, or frozen for future Frozen Embryo Transfers (FET).
While pregnancy success may vary based on the quality of the sperm, typically between 75 and 85 percent of eggs become fertilized with the use of ICSI. Our Pregnancy Success Rates are largely a function of the health of the embryo, which is largely tied to the quality of both the eggs and sperm.
Because lower dosages of fertility medications are prescribed to only produce 3 to 5 high quality eggs, the patient’s cost per Mini-IVF™ cycle is reduced. With a Mini-IVF™ protocol, the patient’s physical discomfort is lessened because her body is not forced into producing the 10 to 15 eggs reached in a Conventional IVF cycle.
Mini-IVF™ is the best treatment protocol for those women who have been:
Mini-IVF™ has also become the preferred treatment protocol for:

A cutting-edge Mini-IVF™ protocol will help you to produce 3 to 5 high quality eggs in one treatment cycle. Your chance of a successful pregnancy is dramatically increased. Look: You will spend less on fertility medications because you will be prescribed lower dosages. The best part: Your body won’t be overtaxed by having to produce the 10 to 15 eggs typically reached in a Conventional IVF Cycle – which may or may not be of good quality.

There are many nutrients in foods that promote optimum sperm health. Healthy sperm is essential for male fertility. If you’re trying to conceive, you can improve the quality of your sperm by eating only nutrient-rich foods. This is because nutrition and male fertility go hand-in-hand.
Zinc plays a key in regulating sperm count and quality. Men who are infertile tend to have zinc levels than men who are fertile.
You can up your zinc intake by eating:
Folate is a B vitamin that is linked to sperm health. Low folate is associated with damaged sperm DNA, lower sperm densities, and lower sperm counts.
You can up your folate intake by eating:
Vitamin B-12 is a critical nutrient to overall sperm health. B-12 improves sperm motility, increases sperm count, and reduces sperm DNA damage.

Identifying and choosing high quality sperm to fertilize an egg is crucial in male-factor infertility cases. Negative influences of male-factor infertility must be negated to ensure successful embryo development. Using HRSS – High Resolution Sperm Selection, embryologists are able to better visualize sperm for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) administration.
ICSI is the process of injecting a quality sperm directly into an egg for fertilization. HRSS is helping embryologists see, identify, and choose only high quality sperm cells for fertilization of an egg in vitro.
At 6000 x magnification – using Differential Interference Contrast (DIC) microscopy – it is possible for embryologists to see finer morphological details of sperm. Using conventional 500 x magnification, these details would go unnoticed.
By viewing sperm cells at 6000 x magnification, lab technicians can identify quality sperm cells that are optimum for fertilization of a healthy egg.
Once optimum sperm cells have been identified, a two-pronged process takes place.
Once the quality sperm cells are selected and separated using HRSS, they are injected into the egg for fertilization. Each egg receives a single sperm injection.
A sperm cell’s normal appearance makes it more likely to be comprised of normal chromosomes and DNA structure. Optimum sperm morphology correlates directly with successful egg fertilization and embryo implantation. Morphology is the most important criteria when judging the quality of a sperm cell.

We offer free social egg freezing informational events to women wanting to postpone motherhood past their prime reproductive years. Improvements in egg freezing technologies mean a greater chance of egg-thawing survival today. Women should not be faced with childlessness because they cannot find the right partner – nor should they feel pressured into a relationship because of an aging ovarian reserve. – The Guardian
According to a science article published last year in The Guardian, women need more information and realistic data about freezing their eggs to preserve their future ability to have biologically-related children. Why is this important? In 2019, women need to know how Social Egg Freezing (SEF) deflects the eventual medical reality of their biological clock running out of time.
Success rates for egg freezing have improved significantly in recent years. Women should be informed of their opportunity to freeze their eggs for social reason if they chose not to get pregnant within their prime reproductive years. These women should be aware that egg freezing does not guaranty a baby in the future. – The Guardian
The latest data from the Human Fertilisation and Embryo Authority (HFEA) shows the following trends in egg freezing:
Today, the medical marvel of egg freezing – oocyte cryopreservation – in conjunction with IVF preserves a woman’s fertility.

An ovarian cancer diagnosis means that a woman is faced with surgical removal of an ovary due to cancerous tumors. Did you know? An ovarian cancer diagnosis can cause a woman to suffer from infertility in her prime reproductive years. Bottom line: Protecting a woman’s fertility in cases of ovarian cancer through fertility preservation technology must be promoted.
An ovarian cancer diagnosis causes great concern to women in their prime reproductive years. The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition is a support organization advocating for fertility preservation. Why is this important? Because there is a very narrow window available to initiate viable fertility preservation options – sometimes only weeks.
Both ovarian cancer and the chemotherapy treatments for same have serious consequences for a woman’s ability to conceive a baby in the future. National Ovarian Awareness Month promotes conversations about the viable fertility preservation options available to women through egg freezing – oocyte cryopreservation. Why is this important? Because there is a very narrow window to initiate viable fertility preservation options – sometimes only weeks.
Chemotherapy drugs and/or radiation therapy used to treat ovarian cancer will have a negative impact on a woman’s future fertility. Treatment for ovarian cancer can also involve removal of part or all of a woman’s reproductive organs:
Before such drastic surgery is performed, women must know all of their options to preserve their fertility for future family planning, including:
Egg freezing performed through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the most common type of fertility preservation treatment for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Through IVF, a woman’s natural egg production is stimulated with fertility drugs into producing several eggs. These eggs are then surgically retrieved and cryopreserved using an advanced technique known as vitrification.
We are a world renowned provider of egg freezing treatment for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Dr. John Zhang was one of the first doctors in the United States to implement vitrification as a method of freezing eggs. The Doctor was one of the first doctors in New York to facilitate a live birth using egg freezing fertility preservation.
Vitrification is a flash-freezing method preventing the formation of ice crystals between the cells forming an egg. Ice crystals can damage an egg’s cells. By surgically retrieving and cryopreserving a woman’s eggs through vitrification for future fertilization, the eggs are protected from the adverse effects of ovarian cancer treatments, such as chemo and radiation.
When egg freezing is not recommended by a patient’s oncologist, or it is not the preferred option by the patient herself – embryo cryopreservation – is also widely acclaimed to preserve a couple’s future fertility through IVF and FET technology.
By surgically retrieving eggs, fertilizing them in vitro (in a laboratory setting), and then freezing the resulting high quality embryos, a couple can increase their chances of conceiving a child biologically related to both the mother and father.
When thawed, embryos can be transferred to the mother’s uterus – or – to the uterus of a gestational surrogate should the mother’s uterus be unamenable to transfer and implantation. Frozen embryos can give a couple the best chances of pregnancy after recovery from ovarian cancer.
The National Institutes of Health reported that [h]uman ovarian tissue transplantation has resulted in the birth of over 70 children worldwide. Preserving female fertility through ovarian tissue freezing is a proven safe and successful procedure.
Ovarian tissue freezing is accomplished in an outpatient surgical procedure by removing a thin piece of the outer membrane of one of the woman’s ovary – the preserved ovary. The outer membrane of an ovary is where a woman’s eggs are located. This ovarian tissue is cryopreserved for later transplant to the woman’s other ovary – the non-preserved ovary.
According to a 2015 study published in the journal of Human Reproduction, 10 out of 32 women facing chemotherapy were able to conceive naturally after undergoing ovarian tissue freezing before cancer treatment.
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, it is important to work with a fertility specialist having the education and clinical experience required to design a customized fertility preservation treatment plan meeting your personal needs.
